Discovery Bay Cricket Club – DBCC Silverbackz Team Profile

The DBCC Silverbackz are a team short in history, but have made up for it in success. Led by its founder Nilesh Jhaveri; the team was started to accommodate the growing interest of Cricket within Discovery Bay, which harbours a large and growing expatriate community.

With limited space and facilities in Discovery Bay & Hong Kong for Cricket, Nilesh has worked hard to convince HKR (Hong Kong Resorts) to develop modern Cricket Net facilities; alongside having the BOLA 2009 bowling machine at their expense as one of their coaching aides. 

Having made the semi-finals of the Plate competition in Beijing, the Silverbackz had triumphant success in Shanghai, bringing the Plate home to Discovery Bay. With more hunger for success, the Silverbackz will be launching an assault at the Beijing Cricket 6’s – where the Team began their International Tours.

DBCC – Silverbackz Pen Portraits

Nilesh Jhaveri (President & Captain of DBCC) – The Founder, Head Coach and heart of the Silverbackz, Nilesh will be the man in charge for a defence of the Shanghai crystal ware. Years of Cricket in Hong Kong has enabled Nilesh to develop the all round skills, which will be invaluable to the team. With extensive cricket experience from Hong Kong & UK, Nilesh will be a bowling spearhead for a team hungry for success.

Smriti Safaya (Vice Captain) – Smriti is a full-time international secondary school teacher and multi-sports coach, she brings an all-round athletic development philosophy to the Academy’s training regime.  A former No.2 tennis junior champion in Hong Kong, she stills plays competitively in the Hong Kong leagues and tournaments.  She has also been appointed as the captain of the DBCC Ladies Team, the Tamarines.
